Family Matters: Body of Child Missing 17 Years is Found in Parents’ Home

CHICAGO – A retired Chicago police captain and his wife were arrested today after police discovered their daughter’s body in their Chicago townhouse. The parents were charged with murdering the girl, who disappeared 16 years ago.
Officers in the Cold Case Squad made the discovery inside Carl and Harriette Winslow’s townhouse around 8:55 p.m. Saturday, after a man approached them with information about the girl’s disappearance, the police said.
The body of Judy Winslow, who appeared to be about 12 at the time her death, was found in an upstairs bedroom.
Judy would have turned 29 on December 17th.
The police said that Judy’s fate apparently went unnoticed over the years because of the large number of family members living inside of the home. Two children, along with Mr. Winslow’s mother and Mrs. Winslow’s sister and nephew lived at the home.
Neighbors expressed shock over the finding.
“One day Judy just went up to her room, and she never came back down. I did think it was odd, but I was more worried about her sister, Laura,” said Steven Urkel, who lived next door to the Winslows until 1997
